Artists' Statements
Artist A
Art, for me, and I hope for you, is pure expression; emotional, wordless communication. Energy passes from me to the work, to the other artists, to you the viewer and back. We make each other complete. Paths form and deform. Connections attach and detach. The humming spirit of art inhabits all, rising and falling in our bodies, sometimes asynchronous and at other times a unison swelling that opens our minds like beautiful flowers to receive the sunlight of higher consciousness. But I do have a bad feeling about that stranger. |
Artist B
My art is about complex systems. Why do you want to make it about identity? Stop reducing everything to identity. You hide your head in the sand of correct thinking. You bury your desires then pretend you’ve matured beyond them. You radiate “Thou shalt not” I respond, one finger extended, “I shall if I want.” I'll make what I want. I’ll love who and what I want, how I want and for whatever reasons I want. I'll shape my own desires and wear them proudly. We need some fresh blood around here. |
Artist C
Fundamental forms should construct regular, ordered and easily comprehended structures. The application of logic should give us peace, but the spaces in between are strangely difficult to perfect. They shouldn’t be. The spaces in between are the problem. I tackle this problem but it always pushes back, makes a little more space than I can contain. It shouldn’t do that. If I had enough material I think I could control all the gaps. It should be as simple as math. Clear and concise thinking should prevail but somehow it never adds up. I’m glad to bring a bit of precision to this show if I can. Holding it all together if I can. It shouldn’t be so hard. I'm not sure we'd survive a new element, adding even more unpredictability to our equation. |
